This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly, it should be thrown with great force. -Dorothy Parker

tasty and sons

Went to Tasty & Sons for brunch Saturday. So tasty and so busy since the Willamette Week named them the best restaurant in Portland.
This is the Cast Iron Frittata and it was delicious.

baby pics

When I was home in Eugene a couple of weekends ago I looked through some old photo albums. My older sister had her first baby last February and it got me thinking about my parents when they first had her and their family was brand new. (Cuz I'm nostalgic like that.)

The baby in this last one is my other sister, Stacey. She was one of the cutest babies ever. Ever.

We watched The Room last night. Ohmigosh so hilarious. I highly recommend it to one and all. So bad it's really good.

Denver

Robear and I just got back from Denver, where he got caught in a big sweep!

oh hi!

I am on a mission to get my closet organized.

I haven't fully recovered from having to share a closet with my boyfriend. I know, right? Impossible! But seeing it has been 10 months since we moved in together (and the fact that my half keeps slowly encroaching on his half) I think it is time to accept my fate and get things in order. I have some shoe storage rearrangements and a makeshift vanity in mind. I'll update as things come along.

the end

LOST ended last night and I am sooooooooo sad. Bear and I are actually both a little depressed. "Lost Ennui" they call it. I felt the same way when Gilmore Girls ended. My mom summed it up best, I think. About a year after GG had gone off the air we were reminiscing about favorite moments and she said "I miss those people." No, they aren't "real" people, but you get to know the characters and when you stop seeing them, you miss them. At least I do.

I came across this image of Sun.

P & P

I'm rereading Pride & Prejudice for the...um...let me see...5th time? That really isn't that high of a number... I'm sure there are Jane die-hards out there who have read it a lot more times than that. It's not about quantity though (says the one who has no chance of competing in that arena) it is about quality of enjoyment and I am loving this book the fifth time around (as I did the first, second, third, and fourth). I don't know what it is about Austen's writing, but I feel like my life outside of the book becomes better, more thorough, more meaningful and artful, when I'm reading one of her novels. Reading Austen for me is like taking a mental shower. I feel like my psyche, my behavior, and my thoughts all change, become fresher and more pleasant. It might just be the wholesomeness of the world you dive into in her novels, all family and leisure and English gentry and falling in love. Whatever the reason may be, I love the effect. Thanks Jane :)

springtime

Saturday, May 1, 2010

Last April Portland had a beautiful early Spring.

Bear and I went to the pitch and putt at McMenamin's Edgefield.

and bummed around Portland with green tea in tow.

I made a Turkish style breakfast for us one morning.

(I have no idea if this is actually "Turkish", but I had a similar breakfast every morning I was in Turkey.)

I got a letter and some great books from Angie,

and I photoboothed in Astoria with bangs!

2 things

Happy May Day!

My May Day thus far has been super dreamy...sort of. Bear and I walked around downtown (we were devastated when Give Pizza a Chance was closed), went to Powells and rode the streetcar home. We were downtown to begin with because I had to go in to work, definitely not as fun. I wasn't there for long though, and now that I'm out I will banish it from my mind until Monday morning at 7 am :)

But that is off the subject. Today I am thinking of two things:

1. My new coat.

2. This camera:

a penny in your purse

I thrifted this young man about a year ago...

and he became an instant favorite. I love the deep caramel color, the structured shape, and the way it kind of looks like a brief case if I hold it by the top handle.

sometimes I steal

Staying home from work sick Monday I had time to take some pics.

First the daffodils bloom, and then Portland turns greeeeeen. The sun shines and its
warm for a few days, a week, and then the raiaiaiain begins again. Classic.

monday

Yesterday was beautiful and sunny and Spring! I was eating outside,

and wearing a dress,

but today I am inside on the computer in sweats staring melancholicly (word?) at the rain. To be fair the sweatpants are not the rain's fault, I am home sick and they just feel so good! But still.
Portland weather, you are a fickle fickle mistress.
