This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly, it should be thrown with great force. -Dorothy Parker

Green Eggs and Ham...

I'm a vegan, but I could not resist the pull of this recipe.  They call it Green Eggs and Ham, by chef Evan Funke.  Basically it is two toasted English muffins, topped with proscuitto (or fakin-bacon) and then two eggs fried perfectly in two tablespoons of butter.  "In a small nonstick skillet over low heat, melt two tablespoons unsalted butter; it should not froth.  Crack two eggs into the pan-the eggs shouldn't crackle or spit on contact; that would mean you heat is way too high-and cook over low heat until the whites are settled but yolks are still runny, three to four minutes.  Once the whites look soft and white, gently spoon the melted butter in the pan over the yolks until hot, about one minute."  Oh wow, best instructions for cooking perfect fried eggs I have ever heard.  Sprinkle the eggs with pepper and salt, transfer to the muffins, and top with a spoonful of pesto.  Fantastic!

A Good Book.

I received an unexpected package in the mail the other day. It was from Angie, my bff, who lives in New York. She landed her dream job a few months ago (in publishing) and was sharing the spoils with me, via airmail.

Taste Treat

Tuesday night I made spaghetti for two, which Bear and I ate while watching 8 1/2. It is one of his all time favorite movies, and is now one of mine.
The sauce turned out to be very angry, but still delicious.

Greetings and Salutations

My name is Julia.
I live in Portland, OR.
I have friends here and a boyfriend, Bear. He has a beard (most of the time).
I never have a beard, though I do have a necklace that is a mustache.
I work at a law firm in Portland. Niotillfem. Also known as 8:30 to 5:15.

Urbandictionary.com defines Julia as: "a name for girls. Most julia's are artistic, smart, romantic, beautiful and also very charming. Julia's can get whatever they want if they try. They can be very sexy so watch out! They are romantics and love old movies, art and books. they love old stuff! They usually aren't very athletic but if a julia is athletic she's kick butt! they have great fashion sense and usually look smokin'. A julia will most likely become a mother because they love kids. They are very successful in life and there is just something about them that draws people in. Also they are ah-mazing dancers!" I do not disagree with this definition.

I am so-crazy for flickr (oh, the treasures to be found there!) and have been on it longer than I've been here, so if you want to give it a looksee go here.

one time.

One time I went to Turkey. I was 20 years old.
There were mosques there.

They were beautiful.

As were the sunsets.

And the wildlife.

And even the grass.

I sure had a good time!

Birthday Friday

Friday was my friend's 23rd birthday.

We had cake and drank champagne.

Sometimes on the rooftop.

Then we went out and karaoked.

Date Night

Friday, originally uploaded by Kepsee.

It had been far too long sinceBear and I had gone on a date so Friday we made a plan, and we made it happen. We went to dinner at The Montage and then drinks on the patio at VQ (Veritable Quandry). We were one of six people at "State of Play" and then got caught in a downpour walking back. Romantic and delightful.
